Peter Biram

A landscape and portrait Painter. Peter has entered the Archibald Portrait prize five times now and has been in the Melbourne “Salon De Refuses” for selected artists whose works have been “refused entry” to the Archibald Prize. Black Saturday Ferns

“This piece of work (Black Saturday Ferns) is typical of Peter’s style rich luscious paint and colour on mid sized canvases, often the strength of conviction with which Peter handles his paint, sets up the composition and uses colour is at first overwhelming for the viewer, yet in no time they often find themselves transfixed, and engrossed in the imagery, textures and depth of concept he presents. On the surface everything is fine, underneath there is more, from Indigenous history and motifs to current degredation and abuse.” Steve Gray 2009

Although Peter will be displaying his landscape works in the Regionalis exhibition he is becoming well known in the media for his portraits, like this recent image of Bud Tingwell he entered into the 2009 Archibald Prize.
